How Eco Reward Tokens Work

How Eco Reward Tokens Work
Eco Reward tokens, or ERW, are Hiiba’s internal eco rewards that power a small token economy for reuse in the UAE. They are used to reward meaningful giving and to keep conversations and reservations intentional instead of random or wasteful.
Every new member starts with some ERW so they can explore the marketplace without friction. You spend small amounts of ERW to send first messages or reserve items, and you earn ERW back when you successfully give items a second life through the app.
In brief
- ERW means Eco Reward, a simple token used inside Hiiba to support better reuse behaviour. It adds a light commitment signal so that messages and reservations are more serious and respectful of people’s time.
- You use small amounts of ERW when you send the first message in a new conversation or reserve an item. These are engagement fees designed to reduce vague interest and help givers focus on people who are ready to follow through.
- You can earn ERW when you mark an item as given after real engagement. Balances are tracked in the app, and the reward engine can also settle giving rewards on-chain, keeping the system transparent while everyday use stays fast.
What to do
Inside Hiiba, Eco Reward tokens form a small, intentional economy around giving and adopting items. Free marketplaces can easily become noisy, with many vague messages and casual reservations that never lead to pickup. ERW introduces a lightweight cost for attention so that when someone reaches out or reserves an item, it is more likely to reflect real intent and respect for the giver’s time.
Using ERW is straightforward. Every new member receives a starting balance, which lets them explore listings and begin conversations without needing to buy anything. When you send the first message in a new chat, a small amount of ERW is used. Reserving an item also uses ERW as a commitment signal. These engagement fees are not there to make reuse expensive; they exist to discourage low-quality engagement and to keep the reuse loop practical and manageable for everyone involved.
Earning ERW is tied to successful giving. When a giver marks an item as given after genuine interaction, they can receive ERW as a reward for helping an item find a second life. The app tracks balances off-chain for speed, while the giving reward can also be settled on-chain through the reward engine. This design combines fast, everyday usability with a real reward layer that supports fairness, including the ability to refund engagement fees if a giver cancels a reservation or gives the item to someone else.
What to keep in mind
Eco Reward tokens are designed to be simple and focused on behaviour, not speculation. They work best for people who want a transparent, lightweight way to show commitment when giving or adopting items. If you expect a complex trading or investment system, ERW is not built for that; it is a practical tool to keep reuse organised and fair.
There are clear limits to how ERW is used. Only certain actions in the app consume tokens, such as sending the first message in a new conversation or reserving an item. These engagement fees are intentionally small and exist to reduce vague interest, not to create barriers. At the same time, givers only earn ERW when they actually mark items as given after real engagement, so rewards reflect genuine contributions.
Hiiba’s architecture separates speed from settlement. Your ERW balance is tracked off-chain in the app so that everyday actions feel quick and responsive. The giving reward can also be settled on-chain through the reward engine, supporting a verifiable reward layer. This combination helps address concerns about fairness and transparency, while keeping the experience simple enough for anyone in the UAE reuse community to participate.
